About NAFP
The National Association of Female Paramedics was established in 1998 by Debbie Duma, who served as National Director until February 2005. This organization was established as a means to help women achieve success in EMS through education, resources, networking, support and comraderie.

Maria Beermann-Foat, Lt., NREMT-P

A transfer of Directorship took place in March 2005. Our current National Director is Maria Beermann-Foat, who is a Lieutenant/Paramedic for Johnson County Med-Act in Johnson County, Kansas (southwestern area of Metro Kansas City). Med-Act serves a 477 square mile area and a population of 452,000 people in a third service model.

Due to the recent transfer in leadership, NAFP is undergoing many exciting changes. Our goal is to continue the growth of this organization so that it becomes a valuable and frequently accessed resource. The success of EMS depends on those who are out in the field directly providing patient care, the management professionals who oversee and guide field personnel, and the education of our government officials who may not completely appreciate the complexities and necessary details that this career involves and requires.
